A new year but still no answer for simmering problems

This week ugly threats and harassment of City Council members elicited their strongest condemnations yet of the extreme behavior engulfing American life and politics.  Downtown resident Jerry Meyer says it will only escalate unless our leaders speak out and take action.

On Inauguration night a riotous mob once again took over Seattle’s streets.  Two weeks earlier, a riotous mob stormed our nation’s capital. There are many differences between these two events, but there is one common theme; the actions of elected officials encouraged both events and these officials should be held responsible.

In Seattle our City Council, aided by the ridiculous policy positions of the City Attorney, has disempowered the police from protecting our neighborhoods and safeguarding our streets.

The tacit approval of brutish mob actions, by these so-called representatives of ours, has allowed unchecked, uncivil behavior to repeatedly occur.  Their position of allowing criminal activity without consequences, nor intervention, over last summer and again this week, seems to be akin to “incitement to riot.”

Until the Council Members and the City Attorney face consequences for their impractical and ineffective governance, the citizens of Seattle—particularly our downtown residents—will be prey to these brutish, anarchistic elements. Will it take the injury or death of an SPD officer, business owner or citizen before action is taken to correct this intolerable situation?

The points made in the recent documentaries “Is Seattle Dying” and “The Fight for the Soul of Seattle” are proving to be true!
